Shrink Wrap: The Cuban Brothers

Cuban Brothers Miguel and Archerio combine DJing, comedy and naked breakdancing. Sigmund Filth pokes around the dirty minds of dance…

Sigmund: How are you?

Miguel: We’re very relaxed, been taking it easy y’know? Nice.

Sigmund: How are you really?

Miguel: Fucking exhausted, absolutely knackered.

Sigmund:You seem quite macho, are you in touch with your inner selves?

Archerio: Oh yes, all the time.

Miguel: I am always in touch with myself, I have been doing it since I was thirteen years old – if there’s no one else around to ‘keep in touch’ I do it myself.

Sigmund: Do you believe in fate?

Miguel:Yes, we believe in fetes of course, the children enjoy themselves so much. They can eat scones, raffia or play the wheelbarrow race. We like to play wheelbarrows ourselves.

Sigmund: What have you been up to recently?

Archerio:We did the Emmy party in Montreaux, the Terminator 3 Party in Cannes, we been all over the place. We also been busy filming our new show for MTV.

Sigmund: And what does that involve?

Archerio: Obviously we will be doing our famous breakdancing, but we will also be interviewing artists and Djs, and doing some comedy sketches.

Sigmund: And what does that say about you?

Miguel: It says that we’re fulfilled. We always try to be fulfilled y’know, to use our skills to get what we want. It’s like a four way handshake; you scratch my back, I finger your arse.

Sigmund: Do you have any compulsive habits like having to lock a door more than once or turning the lights on and off hundreds of times?

Miguel:No not really. I never go out with a loaded gun of course, if you know what I mean. It’s a habit, yes, but I wouldn’t say that it’s compulsive.

Sigmund: What musical influences did your parents subject you to during your formative years?

Archerio: Of course, growing up in the shadow of the revolution was tough, but we were always surrounded by music and laughter. There was salsa of course…

Miguel:My mother, she always sing. She had the voice of an angel. She had a face like a blind cobbler’s thumb mind you, but she had the voice of an angel.

Sigmund: When was the last time you cried?

Archerio: Oh only about four or five days ago. I pointed out two young girls to Miguel who were at one of our gigs and they were crying.

Miguel:They were crying tears of joy.

Archerio: They were crying very much tears of joy, they had enjoyed the show so much.

Miguel:They brought a big salty tear to my eye.

Sigmund: If you were offered a million pounds to leave the country, would you do it?

Archerio: No, I don’t think so.

Miguel:No, I was exiled from Cuba back in the 1970s – it was a very difficult time though…

Sigmund: Do you want to share?

Miguel:Well, I was working for a friend of mine called Austrian Dave making porn films before I made it as a presenter on Good Morning Cuba. Dave called me out of retirement in 1978 to make one more film for him but the chica, she was the daughter of the Minister for Education.

Archerio: She was young and Fidel said that he had better leave.

Miguel:To use an English phrase, he said I should fucking do one.

Sigmund: I see from your notes that you often expose yourselves on stage. Why do you feel the need to do that?

Archerio: No no sir, that’s just Miguel.

Miguel:I don’t get it out all of the time. Sometimes when I’m breakdancing I take off my clothes before a windmill. I only do it when it’s been a good gig – it’s nice to reward people with a glimpse of my lovely member.
